BOISE RESCUE MISSION MINISTRIES' SERVICES FOR THE HOMELESS

Self-Help Manual – This is a list of resources in the Treasure Valley for every type of help, including food boxes, medical clinics, and more.  Click here to download the list.

Emergency Shelter – If you find yourself needing a place to stay for the night, come to Boise Rescue Mission’s shelters.  For women, there is City Light Home for Women and Children, and for men, the River of Life Rescue Mission in Boise and the Lighthouse Rescue Mission in Nampa.  Click on the shelter’s name for check-in times, meal times, contact information, and a map.

Men, women, and children who are in need of food and a place to stay can receive assistance at our three facilities. The goal of emergency services is to provide shelter, nutritious meals, clean clothing, encouragement, counseling, and job search assistance to homeless individuals and those in need as they take steps towards becoming self-sufficient. At BRMM, those in the emergency services are referred to as the Mission's "guests".

Statistics:
In 2009, an average of over 8,450 beds were provided each month to men, women, and children at BRMM.
336,000 hot, nutritious meals were served last year, and 79,014 items of clothing were given away.

Long-Term Help
The long-term goal of the Mission's Guest Services program is to help men and women get off the streets, become employed, and into their own housing. Every person who comes to one of the homeless shelters is offered the help of a Mission staff member in assessing their situation and finding the best option for their next step.

For men at the River of Life and Lighthouse Missions, the "Accountability" program, begun in the summer of 2007, has been very effective in helping men find their independence. In 2006, 54 men transitioned out of homelessness, and in 2007, that number went up to 155. In the first five months of 2008, 82 men went through the Accountability program and were off of the streets of Boise and Nampa and living as productive members of the community.

In this program, each guest who comes to the Mission has the opportunity to meet with a staff member and assess their needs and the path they will take to get out of homelessness. Offering spiritual counseling and guidance is an important part of this process.

Guests are accountable every step of the way, from the search to find a job, to saving their money once they are employed. Mission Staff provide help with applying for jobs, money management, and encouragement. After a trial period, a guest succeeding in the Accountability Program may have the option of living in transitional housing in one of the Mission's available facilities.

Ultimately, the goal is for each guest to graduate from the Accountability Program with a regular full-time job, a savings account, and a place of their own to live.
