Currently, all of our holiday opportunities are full. Please know that we need volunteer, financial and prayer support throughout the year and would like to engage you in meaningful volunteer service at a future date. Do not complete this form unless you would like to be added to our existing waiting list.

We will update this link as volunteer needs change.  If you have any problems with the online volunteer registration process contact Glenn Compton at 208-639-3297.  Be sure to indicate the best time to call you back.  Please do not call Glenn Compton listed in the area phone book, he is a different citizen of Boise. 

General Instructions:

Step 1: Review information about the volunteer opportunities that interest you and/or your group by viewing the calendar and the descriptions below.

Step 2: Write down your top three volunteer opportunities and top three shifts if applicable.  You will need this information to complete the holiday volunteer registration form. You are welcome to express interest in additional volunteer opportunities and shifts in the comment box on the form.  If you are sincerely interested in volunteering for two or more of your top three choices please indicate that in the comment box as well.

Step 3: Complete the holiday volunteer registration form. Do not reserve or commit slots for others without a very strong commitment from them. Important Note:  The registration form will open in a separate window, but for your convenience, you may still want to write down your preferences for volunteer opportunities and shifts.

Step 4: Wait up to seven days to receive a holiday volunteer confirmation e-mail (Sample Email) or a waiting list email from us. We plan to fill volunteer time slots on a first-come, first-served basis and as quickly as possible. If you do not receive information after seven business days email GlennC@boiserm.org. Be sure to include your phone number in that email.

Step 5: Notify Glenn by email as soon as possible if you need to cancel or adjust your request due to illness, etc. Glennc@boiserm.org.

Calendar of Volunteer Events





Volunteer/Event Schedulers (Oct. 1 - Dec. 25)

What: Assist the Volunteer/Event Coordinating team in registering thousdands of guests and scheduling volunteers.

Where: Volunteer/Events trailer located adjacent to the Boise Rescue Mission Ministry Center. This job also has the possibility of being done from home.

When: From October 1 through December 25. 8:00am to 5:00pm, Monday through Friday.

Who: This is perfect for men or women. Bilingual volunteers able to speak Spanish and English are especially needed.

Up arrowTamale Build, Nampa (Oct. 22)

What: Make 5,000 homemade tamales in about four hours.  The tamales will be served at our Great Thanksgiving Banquet and Christmas Event in Nampa.

Who: This is perfect for men, women and children. We need about 80 people from start to finish.

Food, Coat, and/or Toy Sorting Parties (20-50 volunteers for each scheduled event 11/2-12/22)  Up arrow

What: Sort thousands of pounds of donated food, coats, toys and other items + complete additional tasks.

Thanksgiving Food Box Build (Nov. 18)  Up arrow

What: Finish building 1,550+ plus food boxes to be distributed at the Great Thanksgiving Banquets in Boise and Nampa.

Great Thanksgiving Banquet, Nampa (Nov. 23)  Up arrow

What: Approximately 200 pre-registered guests every hour will experience a brief chapel service, be served a delicious meal, and finally, receive a generous food box if needed. We anticipate serving 1,800 meals that day.  Most volunteers will typically work two hour shifts in a wide variety of roles.  Meal times occur at 11am, 12N, 1pm, 2pm, 3pm, 4pm, 5pm, and 6pm.

Great Thanksgiving Banquet, Boise (Nov. 23)

What: Approximately 150 pre-registered guests every hour will experience a brief chapel service, be served a delicious meal, and receive a generous food box if needed. We anticipate serving 500 meals that day. Gently used winter coats, shoes, and other items will also be available for anyone in need from 11am - 2pm at the church, and at the Ministry Center Warehouse from 3pm - 6pm. Volunteers will typically work two hour shifts in a wide variety of roles. Meal times at 11am, 12N, and 1pm. More meal times may be added based on need.

Thanksgiving Work Day at the River of Life and Ministry Center, Boise (Nov. 24)


What:
Load and unload one or two large trucks with leftover turkeys, coats, shoes, chairs, tables, tarps, food boxes, cardboard and other items remaining from the Boise Great Thanksgiving Banquet 

Where: Meet at River of Life Rescue Mission at 575 S. 13th St., Boise, 83702

When: Thursday, November 24th from 9:00am to 11:30 am.

Who: This is perfect for men, women, children and groups who can work outside in any weather condition doing physical work.

Holidays - Day of at the Mission (Nov. 24, Dec. 24, 25, 31, & Jan. 1)

What: Help prepare, serve and clean up (additional oppportunities available on select dates at City Light)

City Light Breakfast Arrive at 7am on Christmas morning to serve a hot breakfast to thankful guests and residents! Ring the doorbell on the gate at City Light (located on the iron gate on the 14th side of City Light). Available space for 2 dishwashers, 4 cooks,and 6 servers. Ages can range from 5 years old to senior citizens! Breakfast will be done by 10am, so you’ll have plenty of time to run home and open your presents!
City Light Decorating Crew If you really want to decorate, you could come anytime between 10am and 4pm on Christmas day to help make our place look great! This would be a great project for a family or youth group. We may have all necessary supplies for your group to use including trees.
City Light Dinner Arrive at 4pm to make and serve dinner. Ring the doorbell on the gate at City Light (located on the iron gate on the 14th side of City Light). What: Load one or two large trucks with large plastic bags containing toys, transport them to the Ada County Boys and Girls Club. Unloading may or may not take place at that time.

Where/When: Thursday, December 15th, meet at River of Life (575 S. 13th St., Boise, 83702) at 8:30am to carpool to Gowen Field.

Who: This is perfect for men, women, and groups.

Christmas "Store" at City Light (Dec. 21-23)

What: Set up and operate a temporary "store" where moms staying in our shelter can shop for their children's Christmas presents.

Wednesday, Dec. 21 Time is flexible Set up the store! This is a 2-3 hr activity for up to six people.
Thursday, Dec. 22 5pm - 9pm We need 3 greeters, 3 personal shoppers, and 3 wrappers.
Friday, Dec. 23 5pm - 9pm We need 3 greeters, 3 personal shoppers, and 3 wrappers.
